NEW PRESS FACILITIES AT MOTORFAIR

THE LATE JIM CLARK AND LOTUS
It is fitting that the 40th Anniversary of the twice F1 World Champion’s
tragic death be marked at Knockhill as Jim was born in Kilmany in Fife.
Jim’s name will forever be linked to Lotus who will also add much excitement
to the event by celebrating 60 years of producing sports cars which are
considered by many to be the finest handling cars in the world.
Hundreds of Lotus owners from all corners of the UK and many foreign fans of
the famous marque will converge at Knockhill including a special display and
track demonstrations.
The impressive entourage of Lotus cars and fans will arrive at Knockhill
having driven directly from Duns in Berwickshire after visiting the famous
Jim Clark Room and paying their respects at Jim’s grave at Chirnside.
Examples of the many and varied cars driven by Jim will be on show at
Classic SpeedFair.
The Borders farmer achieved 33 pole positions and won 25 races from his 72
Grand Prix starts in championship races. He is remembered for his ability
to drive and win in all types of cars and series, including a Lotus-Cortina,
with which he won the 1964 British Touring Car Championship, IndyCar,
NASCAR, driving a Ford Galaxie for the Holman Moody team, Rallying, where he
took part in the 1966 RAC Rally of Great Britain in a Lotus Cortina, and
nearly won the event before crashing, and sports cars. He competed in the Le
Mans 24 hour race in 1959, 1960 and 1961, finishing second in class in
1959 driving a Lotus Elite, and finishing third overall in 1960, driving an
Aston Martin DBR1. He also competed in the famous Indianapolis 500 five
times, and won it once, in 1965.
Fond memories of Jim and his achievements are sure to flood back to many
visitors at Classic SpeedFair.
