Event Information

A slightly different looking event will welcome back the SLS Championship contenders for two further rounds of the 2016 SLS series. Rounds 4 and 5 will provide two days of highly charged competition, on both the Knockhill tracks – with those elite competitors in each class vying to claim top spot on the timing screens. Additionally the British Sprint and Gymkana Cup Series will provide even more thrilling entertainment all weekend long. See the features tab for more info, but here’s a quick rundown of the event:-

Saturday

  • Super Lap Scotland – Round 4 of the 2016 Series will take place on the Reverse Circuit
  • British Sprint – The British Sprint competitors will embark on another Reverse Circuit time-trial event behind the wheel of stunningly fast F1-style single seat racers

Sunday

  • Super Lap Scotland – Round 5 of the 2016 Series will take place on the International Circuit
  • British Sprint – The British Sprint competitors will take their F1-style single seat racers for another blast on track, this time, on the International Circuit
  • Scottish GK Championship – Round 2 of the all new precision driving competition – featuring cars from all over the UK on a specially crafted circuit
  • Mitsubishi vs Subaru Showcar Zone – See Scotland’s leading Subaru and Mitsubishi Car Clubs and individual owners assemble en-mass to compete against each other in a host of Show ‘n’ Shine competitions
  • Feature Subarus and Mitsubishis will be on display in the pitlane garages. The star attractions will be Colin McRae's WRC winning Impreza (L55BAT) and Tommi Makinen's WRC winning Mitsubishi Evolution
  • THE MG TROPHY one-make MG ZR racing with two feature 20-lap races on Sunday 31st July.

What is it?– Super Lap Scotland is not racing, it is however a very intense time-trial challenge event, where competitors compete throughout the day to post the fastest overall time in each of the six classes. All classes are based on the power-to-weight ratio of each car and driver; which allows even the most modest of road cars the opportunity to compete against the super-tuned monsters out on track; with points awarded for qualifying positions and overall finishing positions in each class. Meaning that a class F competitor (least powerful) could easily take the overall Championship title from a Pro class competitor (most powerful) by scoring more points throughout the season, giving us an overall "King of Knockhill".

What will l see? – You’ll see highly-tuned machines (Pro class) tackle the twists and dips of the two Knockhill track configurations at blisteringly fast speeds, with each competitor looking to string together that ‘PERFECT’ lap and top the timesheets against all the competition. You’ll see a plethora of vehicles, all shapes and sizes, and you’ll see some mighty impressive engineering under the bonnet of popular marques like Subaru, Mitsubishi, Caterham, Vauxhall, Ford and many more.

Championship Rounds- This year’s SLS Championship will take place over six rounds, with all taking place at Knockhill; utilising both the International and Reverse tracks. At each event, we’ll also have additional features such as Hot Hatch Sessions, Show Cars and Drifting; please see each individual round for full details on what’s featuring at that event.

  • Sunday 17th April - Clockwise
  • Saturday 21st May – Reverse
  • Sunday 22nd May – Clockwise
  • Saturday 30th July – Reverse
  • Sunday 31st July – Clockwise
  • Sunday 18th Sept – Reverse

Who is it for? – The SLS Championship is for everyone - from individual racers/trackday enthusiasts looking for additional seat time, to men and women on the street looking to take the step on track, or, for those looking to make their first foray into timed competition run under MSA rules. Our seven class structure features an array of vehicles from 1000bhp brutes down to standard road cars, driven to and from the circuit. Basically, if you own a car and want to compete on track, we’ll have a class that you can enter.

- A separate award for road-going cars competing in standard trim, taxed, MOT’d and driven to (and hopefully from) the venue. Tuning companies, car clubs or groups of drivers may also compete for the Team Trophy, consisting of teams of between 2 & 4 drivers.

Rules and Permits – The Super Lap Scotland Championship is officially recognised by the MSA and runs to Super Sprint Championship guidelines.

Sponsors - Now in its third year, Super Lap Scotland is brought to you in association with the Knockhill Motor Sports Club and Track Scotland, with title sponsorship coming from Rockstar Energy Drink. SLS also receives valuable support from RA Motorsport Developments, Clark MotorsportTurbo SmartAET TurbosWhiteline, HQ Garage and Turner Autosport. Our sponsors are also a big part of the SLS scene, and regularly attend, compete and showcase their products at events. Therefore, if you are thinking of upgrading your turbo, suspension or brakes this year; make sure you come along to an SLS event and get some expert advice, tips and equipment from our SLS series sponsors.

British Sprint Championship

British Sprint Championship

British Sprint Championship - A time trial sprint event featuring some mighty fast racing cars. Race fans can look forward to seeing iconic race machines like Colin Calder’s Gould GR55 single seat racer or even Radical SR3 sports cars all being driven flat out in pursuit of victory during the Twin-Track event. The British Sprint Championship will be one of the fastest 4-wheel Championships to feature at Knockhill this year, sporting cars capable of speeds in excess of 180mph. A number of the cars competing this weekend almost resemble Formula1/IndyCars, with massive wide tyres on the back and smaller thinner ones on the front, but with all of them sharing a common purpose, to be driven at super-fast speeds around both track configurations of Knockhill this weekend.

SLS is simply!

SLS is simply!

SLS is simply – man and machine against the track and the clock, with competitors ultimately aiming for the PERFECT lap. Competitors start the day participating in a number of practice sessions, to perfect racing lines and car set-ups. Next, it’s onto the first points scoring activity of the weekend, with qualifying.

SLS Timed Qualifying

SLS Timed Qualifying

Qualifying – consists of two runs of 2 x scoring laps with competitors aiming to top the timesheets with their fastest lap, counting as their outright best time. From there, the fastest drivers in each class then progress onto the single-lap final shoot-out.

SLS Timed Final

SLS Timed Final

Final - this is when the pressure really intensifies. The slate is wiped clean and all the day’s work leading up to the final counts for nothing at this stage. Competitors get one lap, that’s right, a solitary lap to post their quickest time - which ultimately defines the winners from the losers. This really is, for want of a better phrase, win it or bin it!

Show Cars at SLS

Show Cars at SLS

Show Cars - A strong Owners’ Club presence will pack the venue full of show cars. Private owners from up and down the country will converge on Knockhill to not only show their cars; but to participate in the event through Show ‘n’ Shine competitions - with trophies up for grabs for the best individual models (various categories). We should see a wide range of road-going vehicles from the likes of Subaru, Mitsubishi, Ford, Vauxhall and other famous marques.
