The David Leslie Super Touring Car Championship Festival (SMRC)

Saturday 4th - Sunday 5th August, 2018

The David Leslie Super Touring Car Festival event on August 4th /5th is our tribute to one of Scotland’s greatest ever drivers, David Leslie. A selection of the best Touring and Super Touring Cars will once again do battle with a feature race on each day.

The event starts after lunch on Saturday 4th with qualifying for a number of the SMRC classes, the Super Touring qualifying and their first feature race. What makes this event even more special is that the STCC runs Touring Cars from the 90s and 00s, with the Super Tourers head-lining the grid, with a mix of pre Super and post Super Touring Cars adding to the mix.

Event Information

About the SUPER TOURING CAR FESTIVAL

During the 1980s and ‘90s, the British Touring Car Championship became arguably the best national championship in the world. This became a global success with championships in Europe, Asia, North and South America and Australia when the Super Touring Car regulations came into force in the late 90s, up to 2000. Manufacturers were ploughing millions into their 2 car teams, culminating in 10 manufacturers including Alfa Romeo, BMW, Ford, Peugeot, Toyota, Vauxhall and Volvo. Many ex F1 drivers even took their place within the BTCC including Derek Warwick, Gabriele Tarquini, Nicola Larini and Nigel Mansell, drivers from Sports Cars had a go including, Frank Biela, Steve Soper and Manfred Winklehock, all taking on the British stars of Cleland, Hoy, Plato, Leslie, Watts, O’Dor and Reid. They were magical race days.

From 2015, John Cleland, Patrick Watts and Tim Harvey relieved their golden era but it was Stewart Whyte from Auchterarder who eclipsed them all in his ex-Le Mans legend Tom Kristensen Honda Accord. In September, we are hoping for a great, mixed grid of all era’s, featuring some cars with a huge pedigree from their early race days, now reliving their glory days, some reunited with their original drivers and some with new owners who are keen to show them off to an appreciative audience.
