Disappointed Franchitti top rookie at Michigan

Seven days after clinching his best finish in the Nascar Nationwide Series with a fifth place at Watkins Glen, Bathgate’s Dario Franchitti was the top rookie finisher in the latest round at the Michigan International Speedway.

But the 35-year-old Scot, who finished 13th, immediately behind Watkins winner Marcos Ambrose, admitted he was disappointed to miss out on another top 10 finish in his Ganassi Dodge.

“The car was definitely a top-10 car right up until we put that last set of tyres on at the final pitstop and it just got tight for some reason,” Franchitti explained. “That was disappointing.

“The main thing is we’re still building momentum and we go to Bristol for the next round next weekend determined to score another top 10, which is really what we should have had today.” The race was won by American Carl Edwards’ Ford.
