Franchitti bids for back-to-back Canada wins

Bathgate’s Dario Franchitti bids to extend his two-point lead in the IndyCar Championship by grabbing back-to-back victories in Canada this weekend.

The 36-year-old Scot, who won a fortnight ago on the streets of Toronto, tackles the airport course at Edmonton for the first time in his career but Franchitti is confident he will be competitive in his Ganassi car.

“I watched the Edmonton race last year when I was in Scotland and it looks like a really good challenge,” he explained today. “It’s fast and bumpy and it seems to be similar to the track at Burke Lakefront in Cleveland.

“I just love racing in Canada and I’ve a whole crop of good buddies coming over from Vancouver, so I’m desperate to give them something to celebrate. Hopefully I can win again.”

The omens for Franchitti are good in the 190-mile race. While he sat out last year’s IndyCar season, his Ganassi team-mate, Scott Dixon, won the corresponding race last year. The Kiwi starts Sunday’s race two points behind the Scot.
