Stirling racer aiming for sterling performance!

The annual visit of the Northern Sports and Saloon Car Championship see some of the widest machinery anywhere in the UK take on the challenges of Knockhill. Twenty One modified sports and saloon racers will go head to head with Stirling ace Andrew Morrison aiming to put local knowledge to his advantage in his stunning SEAT LEON CUPRA.  The bright yellow flying machine will have it’s work cut out though against an amazing 3.2 ltr VW Beetle RSi belonging to Ian Humpish, Porsche GT3’s of Mike Johnson and George Appleyard and a whole selection of Lotus’s, Caterham’s SEAT’s and BMW’s.

Circuit Director Stuart Gray said “The Northern Saloons and Sports Car Championship always provide close racing, loads of overtaking and plenty of thrills, and the odd spill, because of the mix of race cars.  From four litre monsters to one litre bike engined lightweights, the variety always guarantees close racing”.

Elsewhere in a busy race programme, Craig Brunton, from Cairneyhill near Dunfermline, will be aiming to extend his Championship lead of 24 points over North Berwick racer Kenny Thirwell in the prestigious Scottish Formula Ford Championship in association with CRS Scuderia.  Thirwell had an enforced stoppage by the race organisers during the last race which robbed him of a mass of points, so the rivalry will be resumed this Sunday.

In the Classics, Glasgow racer Stan Bernard, in his Porsche 911 has a narrow seven point lead over Helensburgh racer Olly Ross in his Lotus Europa.  At the half way points, both Bernard and Ross have been dead level or been separated by a few points making it one of the closest championships in years with some 37 drivers having scored points so far this season.

Qualifying starts at 9am on Sunday with 15 races scheduled during the busy race day.  Adult admission is £12, concession £6.  Tickets are available at the gate.
