Shedden lines up fifth at Snetterton

Fifer Gordon Shedden will start fifth on the grid for the opening race in Sunday’s British Touring Car Championship triple-header at Snetterton in Norfolk.

The 30-year-old from Dalgety Bay, who won two of the three races in the last meeting at Croft, was only 0.874secs off pole position despite carrying an extra 27kg ‘success ballast’ in his Team Honda Civic.

“Yeh, I’ve got to be pretty chuffed with that,” Shedden, who only missed out on fourth by 0.112s, admitted. “It’s amazing the difference carrying that extra weight makes to the handling of the car.

“I think we might struggle away from the line tomorrow because of the weight, but we know we’re fast and I feel as long as we can stay out of trouble I can be up there pushing for a podium and a good haul of championship points.”

Shedden starts two places ahead of his team-mate and championship leader Matt Neal. The former champ is 19 points ahead of the Scot, and eight ahead of Jason Plato.

And it was Oxford-based Plato and his Chevrolet team-mate Alex MacDowall who locked out the front row of the grid, with the English youngster outpacing is more experienced team-mate by just 0.094secs.
