Marshall and Thirwall dominate SpeedFair races.

The Scottish SpeedFair and Classic Festival took place at Knockhill today and the assembled classic car enthusiasts were treated to a varied and entertaining programme. Alongside classic racing there were 250 classic show cars, classic rally, classic autotest and a spectacular air display.

The classic racing scene was dominated by the Marshall brothers. Both John and Robert took a clean sweep of podium positions on the day. John had won two successive Classic Championship races in his Ford Escort, followed into second place by brother Robert. The pair then teamed up for the 30 lap endurance race and brought their Ford Escort home ahead if Jimmy Crow/Tom Wilson and solo competitor Grant Allan.

“Robert did all the work to be honest, both cars have run faultlessly this weekend and that’s three hard races they have both had,” said John.

Brother Robert reiterated John’s comments:

“It’s been a great weekend, great championship points for both of us and the endurance win is a superb bonus too.”

Other racing on the day, featured the Scottish Formula Ford Championship and an enthralling David Leslie Trophy Race. Current championship leader, Ken Thirwall was in dominant mood taking both race wins in the Scottish Championship ahead of Alistair Dow and Stuart Thorburn respectively.

The David Leslie Trophy had thrills and spills galore including a complete restart after the unfortunate Andrew Cheshire crashed during the opening laps. Ultimately though, it was that man Thirwall who emerged victorious, taking the win ahead of Scott Fraser and Jodan Gronkowski.

“It’s been a good day all round, three wins including the David Leslie Trophy, which is a big honour and l kept car intact. I’m really looking forward to the season finale now,” said Thirwall.

There were also some competitions for all the classic car owners who had kindly volunteered to showcase their cars. A list of the winners is outlined below:

1950 – Aston Martin DB214 1955

Stuart Gray, Knockhill Events Director said;
