BTCC support classes get their 1st taste Knockhill

It’s now just under 17 hours until 17 the MSA British Touring Car Championship drivers take to the Knockhill tarmac for their first Free Practice session. Today, however, was all about the support classes with testing sessions for Porsche, Ginetta, Ginetta Juniors, Minis and Classic Sports and Saloons.

A damp weather session saw Knockhill returnee Marino Franchitti struggle to get to grips with his Ginetta G55 sportscar. The talented Scot however, simply needed time to get used to his new machine and get back into the grove on track. Franchitti improved in the 2nd session, lapping the 1.3 mile circuit in 53.498 giving him the 5th quickest time. Marino will be back out in track 10.30am for another practice, ahead of qualifying at 11.35am.

In the Porsche Carrera Cup, Fifer, Rory Butcher claimed the 6th quickest time on-the-road and leads the Pro-am1 Class from Jonas Gelzinis, who is only 100th of a second behind. Butcher will be looking to improve on that position and lead the Celtic Speed podium assault come Sunday.

Tickets for the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship can still be purchased online and tickets will also be available at the gate all weekend.
