Scottish car racing this weekend!

Scottish Championship car racing returns to Knockhill this weekend for an extended day and a half event. Saturday sees warm up, qualifying (from 1.30pm) and 4 races from 3.30 onwards. Sunday will be the main raceday with 14 races scheduled including Formula Ford, Legends, Mini Coopers, Fiestas, Classics and Sports & Saloons. Also making a guest appearance this weekend is the Northern Sports and Saloon Championship.

Current Scottish Formula Ford leader Ivor Mairs will be looking defy the odds in his classic 1984 Mondial race car, by securing yet another points haul this weekend. Ivor however, will face stiff competition from a number of racers, in much newer machinery.

Tim and David Sleigh currently top the Celtic Speed Scottish Mini Cooper Cup, with a full grid expected the Mini racing always offers superb entertainment. Elsewhere, current Ladies Cup leader, Elaine Marshall will be looking to hold off challenges from Emma Bruce, Stephanie McMurdo and Fiona Wallace.

The Northern Sports and Saloon Championship makes the trip north to Knockhill with 40+ competitors. Some will be driving cars well in excess of 500php and include models such as Mitsubishi Evo, Ginetta, Citroen Saxo and a monstrous 3200cc VW Beetle RSi.

Former Scottish Legends Champion, Carol Brown will be looking to capitalise on her two main rivals absence this weekend. Both Ross Marshall (1st) and Robbie Burgoyne (2nd ) have yet to enter this weekend’s event. Brown though, will be well aware that there are a number of potential winners in the Legends field.

Other action on track will include the Scottish Sports and Saloon Championship, with Stewart Whyte in his Escort Cosworth looking to fend off the Westfield of Gary Watson. There is a Mexican stand-off in the Classic Sports & Saloons classes with the overall lead shared by four drivers. Andrew Smith, Stan Bernard, Robert Marshall and Nick Boyes all sit on 50 points heading into the weekend.

Dave Colville and George Orr will renew their battle in the ST Cup, whilst Peter Cruickshank and Wayne MacCauley will be looking to get the better of each other in the Fiesta XR2 Championship.

Admission for Saturday’s half day event is only £5 for an adult on the day, well worth a punt if you have never been to a racing event before.

Sunday’s ticket prices are slightly higher with adult admission costing £12, concessions -£6 and a family pass costing £30. Kids under 12 go free and advance ticket discounts apply online!
