Collard bags a brace as Shedden takes Championship lead

Rob Collard celebrated his second Dunlop MSA British Touring Car race win by canoodling with all three of the eBay Motors grid girls, all part of the plan apparently.

“It’s a great job when you win, these Scotch ladies have brought us a lot of luck today, l’ve got a good mind to bundle them into my bag and take them home,” laughed Collard.

“It’s just great to come back to a Circuit that gave me my first win all those years ago, and to walk away with two wins is just superb,” continued Collard.

The 2nd race win in particular, gives idea of just how strong the BMW is this weekend, considering it was laden with success ballast and still managed to cross the line some 11 seconds ahead of third place man, Gordon Shedden.

Tom  Onslow-Cole took his 2nd podium of the weekend by finishing second. The other main championship contenders suffered more disappointing results with Neal back in 8th and Plato further down the field in 11th. Neal at least has a chance of a podium this weekend in the final race of the day. He will line up 3rd on the grid with the Honda of Jeff Smith and Dave Newsham’s Vauxhall Vectra ahead of him.

Despite another podium success and taking the Championship lead (by five points), a despondent Shedden again bemoaned the difference in straight line speed of his Honda, in comparison to other competitors.

“When the car in front is gaining eight to ten car lengths in a straight line, it makes it very difficult to compete. The car is handling superbly, we just need more speed,” said Shedden.

The final Dunlop MSA British Touring Car race takes place at 5.07pm this afternoon. Can Inverness based Dave Newsham take his 2nd career win on his adopted home track, or will Matt Neal and Jason Plato at least salvage something from their difficult weekends?

Let’s find out shall we, stay tuned to ITV4 or if you are on site, stick around for the final race, it’s often well worth a watch!
