BUMPER CROWD EXPECTED FOR 18 RACE SMRC SALOON SUMMER SPECTACTULAR at Knockhill – SUNDAY 11th August

At the end of the month the highly competitive British Touring Car Championship  will be returning with a bang to Knockhill, but this coming Sunday,  the SMRC organised SALOON SUMMER SPECTACULAR event will take centre stage! A great entry by the Northern Saloon and Sports Car Series from the North East of England will add to the already jam-packed 18 race programme, making Sunday one of the busiest and most action-packed events of the 2013 season.

The Northern Saloons will bring a quality grid that is full of highly tuned and modified Subaru Imprezas, Mitsubishi Evos, Cosworth Escorts, SEAT Supercoppa and many other highly charged race prepared cars providing their own brand of bumper to bumper, wheel to wheel action. The saloon theme continues with the SMRC classes showing strong entry numbers, with Pumpherston racer Paul Bryden working to consolidate his 28 point lead in the Scottish Sports and Saloons Championship in his BMW M3, while St Andrews based racer Alan Kirkaldy will be looking to continue his domination of the Marangoni Tyres-backed BMW Compact Cup.

In the most competitive class of 2013, the Celtic Speed Mini Cooper Cup, Joe Tanner from Dunfermline is edging out a slender 5 point lead from Haddington racer Kenneth Thirwell with David Sleigh, the reigning champion from Edinburgh, hoping for better fortune than at the last event.  Sleigh is back having failed to score in the last round after a two car incident with rival Victor Covey Jnr, resulting in both cars being severely  damaged and Sleigh having a multiple roll at the first corner. Both cars are repaired, so fast and fraught races are expected between all the title challengers.

The event starts with qualifying at 8.30am, with the first of 18 races at 10.30am and action continuing all the way to 5.45pm. Adult admission is £12 (£10 in advance), concessions £6 (£5 in advance) and under 12s free. For up to the minute event info, check out www.knockhill.com or the Knockhill Facebook page.
