Turkington plots the clean sweep as he secures race two victory

Colin Turkington secured his second, and his team’s fourth BTCC victory in two years, at Knockhill Racing Circuit today. Turkington led from start to finish to cross the line almost two seconds ahead of WIX Racing’s Rob Austin. Gordon Shedden followed up his race two result with another fine podium; fending off a late surge from eBay Motor’s Rob Collard.

Turkington’s car has been unstoppable this weekend and he now looks odds on to win all three races this weekend. He’ll line up sixth on the grid for the final encounter and knows that another podium finish will propel him back into Championship reckoning before the BTCC heads to Rockingham Circuit in two weeks time.

“We thought this weekend could potentially be a good one, given the team’s success here last year.

“I’m delighted with the victory and another haul of points in the final race will be great for the Championship,” commented Turkington.

Rob Austin may have other ideas, his WIX Racing Audi has shown blistering pace all weekend and few would deny that he, more than most, deserves to win a BTCC race. He’ll have a tough task however, with the likes of Matt Neal, Gordon Shedden and pole position man, Andrew Jordan ahead of him for the final encounter of the day set to take place at 5.07pm.

Shedden, obviously slightly disappointed that he couldn’t keep pace with Turkington or Austin in that race, but took time out to thank the hordes of Scottish race fans who have turned out at Knockhill today.

“It’s absolutely awesome to see so many fans here today. There are flags and scores-and-scores of fans littered all around the venue.

“I tried my hardest in that race but l couldn’t keep pace with Colin; he was off like a scalded cat. Perhaps if all the fans raise the noise level in the next race, that might be enough to take me over the line first,” quipped Shedden.
