SUPER LAP SCOTLAND SET TO BLAST IN TO ACTION AT KNOCKHILL ON SUNDAY 20th APRIL

The opening round of Super Lap Scotland (SLS), Scotland’s fastest championship, will roar back into life of Sunday 20th April as Scotland’s fastest modified sports and saloon cars will go head to head to see who is the “2014 King of Knockhill”. With entries still coming in,  the KMSC organising Club are expecting that the season opener will have more cars than at any time in 2013. Also with the return of the TimeAttack pencilled in for May 25th, Super Lap Scotland numbers are expected to grow well beyond those of its British counterpart, making SLS, the biggest championship of its type in the UK.

SLS has six classes, all based on power to weight ratio, making it a unique structure in the UK that will allow cars in any of the six classes to compete for the overall title as they race against the clock in a Super Sprint format against similar cars. The range of cars will feature everything from standard road cars, tuned track cars, through to the head liners in the Pro Class such as Charlie Shaw in his 989bhp Ford Focus. SLS Chairman Stuart Gray said “The race against the clock, similar to Formula One qualifying, is the appeal for these guys and girls, as the perfect fast lap is the target. Not everyone wants to race wheel to wheel in their pride and joy and SLS allows them to show just how fast they are, but against the clock. It’s the perfect platform for Tuning businesses and the modified after market to show case their latest trick equipment, turning fairly modest road cars into flame spitting track stars”,

Action will start at 9.30am with warm up sessions for the SLS with the serious timed qualifying sessions after lunch and grand final featuring the single lap shoot out where the points will be awarded on the performance on that one flying lap. Feedback from some experienced competitors has been fantastic, Gray continues “One driver last year stating that he had raced for years, all over the UK, but had never experienced such pressure, as performing in the shootout where that single lap matters so much. In racing you get the chance to put in a qualifying lap in a 10 minute session, in SLS, its one lap and winner takes all! We will have Hot Hatch sessions throughout the day too and these drivers will get sight of a competition format that they too might take part in later in the year”

Admission is £10 on the day (£8 in advance), concession £5 (£4 in advance) with under 12’s free.
