Battye steals the BDC show with stunning Pro and Super-Pro wins

The UK’s leading Drifting Championship (The Maxxis British Drift Championship) rolled into Knockhill this weekend (7/8 June), as some of the country’s leading competitors headed to Knockhill for Round 2 of the 2014 season; all in search of valuable Championship points on one of the toughest Drift circuits in the UK.

Over 100 competitors, travelling from all over the UK, pitched up for some tyre-shredding action, driving a vast array of machinery including models from Nissan, Toyota and BMW. However, all with one common aim, to navigate the Knockhill Circuit as spectacularly and quickly as possible; whilst leaving vast plumes of smoke in the process. Indeed, during this weekend, the BDC boys would have gone through a minimum of 2000 tyres. That equates to almost 10 pairs each, with up to 20 pairs, being the norm, for some of the Super-Pro competitors.

In previous years, the Knockhill round has always been an unpredictable one, much like the weather, and today’s event was no different. Pro competitor Martin Battye propelled himself into the Super-Pro category for the rest of the season with a sterling performance this weekend, making it all the way to the Super-Pro final, and winning; fending off a fully committed Stephen Biagioni to take a stunning victory and claiming ‘King of the Hill’ plaudits in the process.

Scots lad, David Waterworth, claimed his best BDC Super-Pro finish at Knockhill by taking a third place podium ahead of Team Falken’s Matt Carter. Battye was at it again in the Pro class, adding another top step finish to his name this weekend; beating Ollie Elmore (2nd) and Ollie Silcock (3rd) to the Pro class honours.

In the Semi-Pro class, Matt Stevenson took the top step of the podium with Joe Ankers (2nd) and Jack Symes taking the other rostrum positions. A full list of today’s results can be found on the Maxxis British Drift Championship website. Make sure you stay tuned to both the BDC’s website and Facebook page for full reaction from this weekend.

Elsewhere, the Fueltopia Barrel Sprint took place in paddock two, with plenty of enthusiastic drivers giving the gymkhana style shoot-out a go. Once again, BDC competitors featured heavily on the rostrum positions in this one too.

In our Show ‘n’ Shine competitions, David Forsyth took the Best Modified for his Nissan Skyline R33, whilst Stefan Storie scooped the Car of the Show award for his immaculately presented Mk2 Volkwagen Golf VR6. The boys and girls from Clan Japan walked away with the Best Club Stand trophy and our thanks go to everyone who came along to show/compete in their vehicles this weekend.

Knockhill Events Director, Stuart Gray commented:

“It’s been another spectacular display from the British Drifting competitors today. It truly is a unique brand of entertainment, the speed, the sound, and of course, the smoke; just make for an awesome spectacle.”
