Super Lap Scotland in association with RA Motorsport Developments latest event, saw Charlie Shaw maintain his relentless pursuit of the 2014 SLS title as he claimed Pro Class qualifying and final victory at Knockhill today. That maximum points haul will see the rapid Ford Focus racer maintain his perfect record for the season and will see him maintain his position at the top of the SLS ‘King of the Hill’ standings.
Despite the win, Shaw was left to contemplate what might have been following his final, and winning, lap of the day. Shaw had been chasing a 51 second lap time all day, and despite topping both the qualification and final timesheets, he’ll leave Knockhill knowing that he could have gone faster. During the final today, where competitors get one lap, yep just one lap, to register a time in the final shoot-out, saw Shaw post his quickest times of the day in the first two sectors. But a slight his-hap at the hairpin saw his perfect lap disappear before his eyes. Shaw though, maintained his composure to cross the finish line with a time of 52.932 seconds, 1.832 seconds ahead of 2nd placed man Russ Paton. Andy Napier secured third spot in the Pro Class final.
Elsewhere, David Long powered his Caterham R400 to victory in class A. Long had to hold off Aberdeen racer Fiona Kindness in her Subaru Impreza Type R, a car she shares with Class B winner Adam Kindness. Kindness will be happy enough with Class B winning honours following some mechanical gremlins today. Jack Strathdee finished runner-up in Class B behind the wheel of his Ford Focus Mk1 RS. Class C was a tight affair, as John Wilson took an early lead, only to see Keith Cowie, Bob MacKay and with the very final throw of the dice, Wayne Sutherland storm past him on the timesheets. Sutherland’s effort of 56.881s was enough to see him take the Class C plaudits at the end of the day. In Class D, Matt Collins will be kicking himself tonight, he had been on of the most dominant drivers in the class all day, but following a below par final time, that gave Jason Ogg an opportunity to claim a surprise victory. Ogg had endured some serious mechanical issues all day and somehow managed to squeeze enough out the car for a final and lap winning assault around the Knockhill track. David Herd also maintained his 100% final winning record in Class D behind the wheel of his trusty Ford Fiesta.
