BTCC fever at Forth Road Bridge as parade marks start of 50 Year Anniversary for one of Scotland’s most famous landmarks.

Today, some of Scotland’s leading BTCC drivers headed out onto one of Scotland’s most famous landmarks to commemorate two amazing achievements. Firstly, to pay homage to the 1964 BTCC title win of Jim Clark, arguably one of the all-time great racing drivers, and secondly, commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the Forth Road Bridge.

Current BTCC stars, Gordon Shedden, Aiden Moffat, Dave Newsham and Glynn Geddie were joined in the special precession by a number of iconic Jim Clark cars; including a very special Lotus F1 Car and Jim’s 1964 title winning Lotus Cortina, a title he won when he was the reigning F1 World Champion, a feat that will never likely be repeated.

The BTCC and Jim Clark parade at today’s Forth Road Bridge crossing also marks the start of the Bridge’s 50th Anniversary celebrations. The BTCC crossing was officially included in the Homecoming Scotland 2014, backed, Forth Bridges Festival programme of events; which will see a series of activities take place to commemorate the famous landmark from 4th to 13th September; culminating in a torchlight procession and fireworks display on Saturday 13th September. You can find out more about all the planned activities by logging onto the Forth Bridges Festival website (www.forthbridgesfestival.com).

The BTCC cars and Jim Clark cars now make their way to Knockhill for the Homecoming Scotland 2014 – Knockhill 40th Anniversary – Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship DPS Group Raceday event set to take place this weekend (23/24 August). The Jim Clark cars will form a special display at Knockhill in our own 40th Anniversary Marquee which will see 40 years worth of Knockhill motorsport celebrated; whilst the BTCC drivers will fight it out with 27 other drivers for BTCC glory that same weekend, as they participate in a trio of highly-anticipated action-packed Touring Car races on Sunday 24th August.

“Thanks also to the BTCC stars and private owners of the Jim Clark cars for participating today. Our focus now shifts onto the weekend, for what promises to be one of the best Touring Car events at Knockhill, in recent memory.”
