Shakey tops off an eventful morning as fastest in FP3

Shane Byrne, yet again, topped the MCE British Superbike Championship in association with Pirelli third free practice session at Knockhill. After an eventful morning that saw a section of the track need re-tarmacked following water damage, and a delay to the start of proceedings due to fog; Byrne sat patiently in pit lane as the tracked dried out before venturing on track, on slicks aboard his PBM Kawasaki, to post a session winning time of 49.268 seconds.

“The tracks not fully wet. If it was slightly wetter when the session started l would have gone out, because we’ve not had any wet running this weekend. We’ll just wait for the track to dry and perhaps go out for a look towards the end of the session,” said Byrne mid-way through the practice session.

Despite, times not being as quick as yesterday, Danny Buchan was second fastest, with James Ellison, Michael Laverty and Luke Mossey rounding out the top five. The next all-important Datatag Extreme Qualifying for the MCE British Superbike riders takes place at 16.05pm this afternoon. The elimination-style knockout competition will be split into three separate sessions, with riders eliminated each session who fail to make the cut off point.

Additionally, this afternoon we’ll also see action continue through to early evening in an attempt to catch up on the delayed programme from this morning. We’ll see races for the Motorpoint British Supersport, British Sidecars, Ducati Tri-Options Cup, British Motostar and KTM Junior Cup.

Tickets for tomorrow’s action are available online via the Knockhill website, subject to pre-booking discounts until midnight this evening. Alternatively, tickets will also be available on the day at the gate.
