Taz Mac takes a home win

Tarran Mackenzie took a terrific race win in the Pirelli National Superstock 600 Championship; continuing his fine run of form in the series. Taz powered his Team WD-40 Kawasaki to his second podium success at Knockhill in as many years.

Taz managed to qualify his bike on the front row and steadily made progress to the front to eventually end a curtailed Superstock race 2.1 seconds ahead of Andrew Irwin, with Championship leader Mason Law taking the third place podium. With the race entering its 15th lap, spots of rain began to fall and the race was brought to a premature end with 22 laps scheduled to run. As Tarran made his way back to the pit lane, all the Mackenzie family and members WD-40 Team assembled in front of the podium to celebrate a special win.

Mackenzie’s win, now puts him on an illustrious list of Scottish names who have won a National Superstock 600 race at Knockhill, including Steve Hislop, Jim Moodie, Kev Coglan and Michael Robertson – who scored a 2nd place podium in the Superstock 1000 Championship earlier in the day.

A somewhat lost-for-words Tarran simply commented:

“Yeah, great race, delighted to take a win at Knockhill. Thanks to all the team.”

Conversely, Dad Niall was slightly more emotional, as he beamed:

“He’s been desparate to win, and to do it at Knockhill is very special – he was born only a few miles from here… I’m a bit emotional to say the least.”

Mum Jan quipped:

“Oh, he’s embarrassing isn’t he – of the emotional Niall – Tarran works extremely hard at his racing and deserves to take the win.”

Brother Taylor, despite being slightly despondent following yesterday’s Datatag Extreme Qualifying session, also enjoyed a decent ride in the MCE British Superbike Championship; staying aboard his Team WD-40 Kawasaki, were some of his more experienced counterparts failed, to finish just outside the points in 16th place.

No doubt, there will be a few celebrations in the Mackenzie and GR Motorsport garage this evening… and who could blame them.
