We’re always keen to expand and improve, so while your here we want to take the time to explain the ins and outs of what is fast becoming the most exciting championship in Scotland! See the answers to our most commonly asked questions below:

What is Super Lap Scotland (SLS)?

SLS is simply – man and machine against the track and the clock, with competitors ultimately aiming for that PERFECT lap. The championship is so easy to get involved in and is a step between track days and out and out racing.

What class structure does SLS use?

All classes are based on the power-to-weight ratio of each car and driver – a system we believe provides you with the ultimate level playing field. This allows even the most modest of road cars the opportunity to compete for their class honours while also going up against the super-tuned monsters for the overall “King of Knockhill” trophy!

What are the power to weight ratios of each class for 2016 (based on WHEEL bhp and WEIGHT including driver)?

Pro: 450+ wheel bhp/tonne

A: 350-450 wheel bhp/tonne

B: 271-350 wheel bhp/tonne

C: 211-270 wheel bhp/tonne

D: 161-210 wheel bhp/tonne

E: 136-160 wheel bhp/tonne

F: up to 135 wheel bhp/tonne (NEW for 2016 & geared towards Mini’s, Clio’s and BMW Compact’s)

*Every car must complete a rolling road test at a SLS certified venue before competing.

How do SLS events run and what kind of track time does each driver get?

Practice

Each driver has the opportunity to take part in the 2 x 15 minute practice sessions on the morning of the event. You can use this to shake down your car or to fine tune your set up and driving technique for the afternoon of competition!

Qualifying

Next you will move onto qualifying which consists of a 15 minute open session (max 15 cars per group) with competitors aiming to top the timesheets with their fastest lap. This is an opportunity to score valuable points towards the championship standings. From there, each driver then progresses onto the single-lap final shoot-out.

Super Lap Final

The Final is when the pressure really intensifies. Competitors get one Super Lap, that’s right, a solitary flying lap to post their quickest time – which ultimately defines the winners from the losers. This really is, for want of a better phrase, a one lap dash for the cash!

How many SLS events are organised per season and what are the dates?

Super Lap Scotland is a 6 round series run over 4 weekends with 2 x double headers and 2 x single headers.  We have chosen to utilize our twin track system during the over the double header weekends with the reverse configuration on Saturdays and then clockwise on Sunday!

2016 Dates

Round Date
1 April 17th – Clockwise
2/3 May 21st Reverse /22nd – Clockwise
4/5 July 30th Reverse /31st – Clockwise

What else can be expected from SLS events?

SLS events showcase a multitude of action on and off the track with features such as show and shine contests, drag racing, car track day sessions, drifting and stunt riders. Each event has a different theme and also attracts supporting championships such as the British Sprint Series, the BMW Supercup, the Northern Sports and Saloons and the Gymkhana Cup, which all help to create a thrilling and entertaining show!
