Today was Tarquini’s day as he wins Race 1

Gabriele Tarquini rolled back the years to win the opening Super Touring Car Championship race of the weekend. Stuart Whyte lined up on pole in the ex-Tom Kristensen Honda Accord with Colin Noble Junior occupying the P2 position in his Vauxhall Vectra, however, a collision between the pair at Duffus Dip left Tarquini, who recovered from a spin into the gravel during qualifying, to claim the opening race win of the weekend ahead of Mark Jones and Dave Jarman.

It was fitting that Tarquini, driving David Leslie’s former Honda Accord; and Jarman, driving another ex-David Leslie car in the shape of the Nissan Primera, both tasted podium success during the inaugural David Leslie Super Touring Festival event supported by EventScotland and Fife Council – with members of the Leslie family there to hand out the trophies on the podium.

Another terrific day awaits tomorrow, make sure you pre-book your tickets by midnight tonight – subject pre-booking discounts (tickets to be collected at the gate tomorrow).

Otherwise, come along tomorrow, tickets will be available at the gate; and with some of the top drivers – Cleland, Whyte and Noble Junior – starting from the rear of the grid, there will surely be plenty of eye-watering action on track.
