Saloons and Sports Car racing on SLS bill this weekend.

Welcome to the Darlington & District Motor Club’s NSSCC. We are contesting round 9&10 of the 2017 championship this weekend at Knockhill. The championship is making a welcome return to Knockhill, after an absence of 18 months.

So far this year we have visited Oulton Park, Mallory Park and Rockingham along with a “ home round ” at Croft circuit.  The championship points table is, as always, very close, which has been the the norm for the championship over its entire 20 year history. Currently holding on to the top spot is Mark Leybourne (Westfield) but he has Scott Hubel (Peugeot 205 T16 Replica), Lee Underwood (Honda Civic)  and Gary Bowers (BMW) snapping at his heels. Unfortunately business commitments prevent Lee Underwood joining us here this weekend.

Mark is having an epic battle in class E2 with Simon Mayne (Arion) and both guys spent last year swapping position all season long and this year is looking like a repeat of that, which makes for interesting racing. They are joined in class E2 by Kyle Murchie (Pell Genisis); Kyle and his father Colin Murchie spent most of last year rebuilding the Pell Genisis to give reliability, this effort is certainly paying off, Kyle having picked up good results from his first outing with the car. Many of you will know Colin, he has competed in a lot of different types of motorsport at Knockhill over the last 20 years.

One of the new cars on the circuit this year is the beautifully turned out Renault V6 Trophy car, driven by Portuguese Tennis pro, Eduardo De Sousa.  This weekend we are delighted to have local driver Paul Brydon making a welcome return to the championship in his BMW.  We are missing a few of our top runners this weekend because of breakdowns which could not be repaired in time for this meeting.  This won’t stop the other guys having a great outing, one of the most interesting clashes is likely to be between the Fiesta’s of Dan McKay and Clive Cooksey, and both guys took a year out in 2016 to rebuild and improve the performance of their cars.

Darlington & District Motor Club and the Northern Saloon & Sports Car Championship hope that you enjoy our races. We would like to extend our thanks to Knockhill, the officials and marshals for hosting our races this weekend. We hope that you all have a safe and enjoyable weekend; please come along to our paddock to have a chat about the championship, you will be very welcome.
