Ahead of the new season, Duncan Vincent catches up with the Formula Ford 1600 Championship’s latest recruits, Cameron Thomson and Logan Hannah.
16 year old Cameron comes from the Karting Super One Series and takes his first foray into car racing by joining the Graham Brunton Racing stable’s Young Driver Development Programme – that has seen a number of young Scots through its doors in recent years, with a number of them going on to achieve success in Scotland and beyond. Cameron is relishing the opportunity to compete in the open-wheeled series and believes the skills and techniques he has developed in Karting will be of benefit to him when he takes to the track in the opening round of the 2019 Formula Ford 1600 Championship season on Sunday 7th April.
Ahead of that, Cameron and his teammate, Logan Hannah will have to contend with some pre-season testing action at Knockhill this weekend (Sunday 17th March). If you’d like to come along to get a glimpse of the new race cars and drivers testing at Knockhill this weekend, circuit entry is free.
Hannah, made her FF debut at the tail end of last year, picking up a seventh place finish in the penultimate race of the season. She’ll be looking to use that experience to hit the ground running in 2019 aboard her Ray race car.
“We are going in to the new year completely focused on learning as much as possible. The car is good from a starting point although we have a few things to work on. The idea is to build up throughout the year and then hopefully be challenging for wins as the season progresses.”
Tickets are on sale now for the opening round of the 2019 Scottish Championship Car Racing season via the Knockhill website. It’s a full on day of racing action with up to 8 different championships and 100 drivers competing on the day. Action starts at around 8.30am and lasts all day through to around 6pm.
