MacLennan takes maiden Formula Ford win

17 year old Niall MacLennan, took his first-ever Scottish Formula Ford race win at Knockhill this morning; beating current Championship leader Adam MacKay to the finishing line by just 0.2seconds.

However, the race result mainly hinged on an incent involving Jordan Gronkowski on the opening lap; after the Banff racer spun at the hairpin whilst making a pass on MacKay. That spin, forced MacKay wide to avoid impact with Gronkowski and let MacLennan open up a 2.2 second advantage at the head of the field.

MacKay then set about reeling in MacLennan at the front and a series of fast laps – including the fastest lap of the day, a 54.915 second effort – soon brought the Ecurie Ecosse driver into striking distance of MacLennan. But the Tore teenager held his nerve in the closing stages, despite intense pressure from MacKay, to claim his first-ever race win in only his first Scottish Formula Ford 1600 season.

A delighted MacLennan said:

“The win has finally come; I got so much good luck with Jordan’s move at the Hairpin and after that l just couldn’t wait for the last lap board to come out.”

MacKay on the other hand was far from happy with the move Gronkowski tried saying:

“I don’t know what Jordan was thinking at the Hairpin, he’s ruined his race and he’s ruined mine. We still got second, but that’s not where we want to be.”
