McRae protegee wins in Brazil

Colin McRae protégée Kris Meeke powered his Peugeot to a dominant victory in the second round of the Intercontinental Rally Challenge, the Rally de Curitiba in Brazil.

The 26-year-old from Ireland won all opening seven stages then  eased himself through the final day to win by 26.2 seconds from Frenchman, and Peugeot team-mate Nicolas Vouilloz.

“It’s been a fantastic event, probably the best rally I have ever done,” Meeke, who former world rally champ McRae began coaching in 2002, said today.

“After the disappointment of the opening round in Monte Carlo, when we crashed within sight of a podium finish, to win in such dominant fashion is a major boost for the rest of the season.

“And with the final round of the championship to be held in Scotland in November, there would be no better place to clinch the championship,” the former Junior World Rally Championship driver continued.
