A fortnight after claiming victory in the latest round of the Hankook Scottish Rally Championship in Elgin, Scotland’s brightest young rally star David Bogie today continues his British Rally Championship challenge in Ulster.
The 22-year-old from Dumfries, Scottish championship leader having won two rallies this season, is reunited with his all-new Mitsubishi EvoX for the all-tarmac event.
But while Bogie has shone in the domestic championship, the youngster acknowledges he’s had mixed fortunes so far in his BRC campaign.
“The past two events especially have been frustrating,” Bogie, who will again be co-driven by Hawick’s Kevin Rae, said today, “with silly wee errors causing us a lot of lost time.
“But on the second day of the Isle of Man Rally we managed to get some miles under our belt and work on the set-up of the car.
“It’s important people remember the Evo X is still a new entity in terms of its development, but I don’t think it’s far away now and it would be great to get another podium finish this weekend.”
To help development of the Mitsubishi, Bogie will be joined by former British champ, Welshman Gwyndaf Evans in a second car prepared by the JR Motorsports team.
Irishman Keith Cronin and former British champ, Manxman Mark Higgins, are both tied for the lead of the BRC on 76 points. Bogie, who finished on the podium of the second round, the Carlisle-based Pirelli Rally, is currently seventh having failed to score in the last two rounds.
This year’s Ulster Rally sees a change of host town from Armagh to Antrim and the introduction of stages that have not been used on this 127-mile event for a number of years.
