Jason Plato takes pole for race one tomorrow

Jason Plato and MG KX Momentum racing secured their first pole position at Knockhill in their first attempt. Plato powered his MG6 to the top of the timesheet with a quarter of the session remaining. That time proved to be the quickest as the heavens opened and heavy rain began to fall.

In the remaining minutes of the session there were only a few drivers who managed to improve their times. However none, significantly enough, to demote Plato from another front row start at Knockhill, a track he seems to like.

Ebay Motors, Rob Collard will line up second on the grid for the opening race and he is very optimistic about his chances tomorrow.

“We were good in the dry and when the rain came l thought we wouldn’t be anywhere near it.

“When they told me where l was l thought, wow, that’s quite good. Once l came into change my tyres and the rain got heavier l knew Jason would have it. But we’ll just need to take him into the first corner tomorrow,”  joked Collard.

Third on the grid for tomorrow’s opening race is Aron Smith with his Redstone Racing Ford Focus. Mat Jackson had been posting some good times in dry conditions, but it was ultimately Smith, who would deal with the tricky conditions slightly better to out-perform his team-mate.

Honda duo Matt Neal and Gordon Shedden know they have a lot of catching up to do in tomorrow’s races. Shedden claimed the lack of boost and the success ballast the Honda’s are carrying really hampered them today, but claimed they would be back tomorrow to slug it out in the three BTCC races.

The first Touring Car race starts at 11.45am tomorrow morning. A bumper crowd is expected and conditions, according to reports, should resemble the dry and cloudy conditions we witnessed here this morning.

Advanced tickets are still available and if buying online, you will be able to collect at the circuit tomorrow. Alternatively, you can pay on the gate all day long.
