Bogie shortlisted for dream drive

Scotland’s most promising rally star, 22-year-old David Bogie from Dumfries, has been shortlisted for a dream drive in this month’s inaugural RallyScotland, the final round of the Intercontinental Rally Championship (IRC).

The Scots youngster is one of five top-line rally drivers, including former British Rally champ Guy Wilks from Darlington, who is being considered for a fully-paid, works-supported drive in a Kronos Peugeot 207 S2000.

The package, backed by tyre giant BFGoodrich, would see Bogie forge a Peugeot double-act with newly-crowned IRC champ, Colin McRae protégé Kris Meeke.

Bogie, who won this year’s Hankook Scottish Rally Championship — becoming the youngest winner since McRae — and impressed in his development of the all-new Mitsubishi Evo X in the British Championship, is thrilled at the prospect of driving the Peugeot.

“Getting the BFGoodrich-Kronos Peugeot drive would definitely be a dream and a fantastic way to finish the season,” Bogie, who has vowed he he will only contest select round of the Scottish Championship next year as he bid to develop his career, said today.

“I know there are a lot of well-established drivers in the running for the drive and it’s fantastic even to be considered. But to be able to drive a championship-winning S2000 car in the first RallyScotland really would be brilliant.”

Bogie will learn if he has been chosen after a meeting of the selection panel to be held at the Motorsport Association headquarters at Colnbrook tomorrow.

The three-day Stirling-based RallyScotland starts on Thursday, November 19 with a spectacular special stage through the grounds of Scone Palace. Friday and Saturday sees the competitors tackle some of Scotland’s toughest and most famous forest stages.

In addition to Meeke, former British rally champ Alister McRae will return to action in Scotland when he drives the Proton S2000.
