Modified Live recap!

The Modified Live circus rolled into Knockhill today (Sunday 15th May) and with it thousands of modified car fans. The event which had a bumper crowd in 2010, again attracted the masses despite some cold weather. Those who did attend certainly got plenty of entertainment to take their minds of the freezing winds, with stunt shows, drag racing, drifting and Time Attack.

On track we had action from the European Drifting Championships and the Time Attack series with their 1000bhp Subaru’s, Eves and Skylines. Kevin Carmichael also took to the track for a pre-Motorshow warm up and delighted the crowds with his motorbike and car driving skills. We also saw Knockhill bike racer, Bruce Birnie participate in a number of drag challenges with a 500bhp drift car. Although Bruce won the competition hands down, his favourite memory of today will probably be of sitting beside Carmichael as a passenger during his stunt show.

Declan Hicks and Paul Conlan contested the European Drifting Championship Final.

In the Time Attack series it was Gavin Renshaw driving his Mitsubishi Evo9 who took the spoils. He lapped the Knockhill Circuit in a time of 55.024 seconds ahead of second placed Russ Paton and Marcus Webster in 3rd. Scottish driver, Fiona Kindness took victory in the Club Pro Class with a best time of 56.900 seconds in her Nissan Skyline R32 GTR with an average speed of 80.43mph.

Elsewhere we had an enormous turn out of tuned and customised cars, we even had a number of driving clubs from all over Scotland showcasing there favourite model. Indeed, it was Clan Japan who won the battle with their fellow club stands for the ‘Best in Show’ prize. A special thanks to all those club members and of course Glenrothes Car Club for their entertaining Autotest competition in Paddock 2. A huge, thanks also to the Modified Live team for putting on another fantastic show and also to the fans for turning out at knockhill today.

Stuart Gray, knockhill Events Director commented:

“If we could bottle what Modified Live brings to the circuit, we’d have sell out events every weekend.

“It’s remarkable the amount of fans this event brings through our gates and the interest it generates”.

The next modified event at Knockhill will be taking place on Sunday 29th May. The Total Vauxhall Show and Trackday will bring together hundreds of Vauxhall models for a day of on and off track action. More info for the event can be found here!
