Classic Racing Motorcycle Club meeting.

A feast of motorcycle racing was served up this weekend courtesy of the CRMC (Classic Racing Motorcycle Club) with no less than 36 races. In addition to races for 500cc, 1300cc, 125cc classic motorcycles, Knockhill also witnessed round four of the ACU UK Classic and Post Classic Championships.

The CRMC can boast members from all over the UK and an impressive number rolled into Knockhill for their 2nd race meeting in two years. The entry list included some of the star names from the classic motorcycle racing scene including Alan Oversby, John Cronshaw, Garry Thwaites and Stu Hall.

Indeed it was Wakefield rider Hall who crowned an impressive weekend performance by taking a 6.103 second victory in the ACU UK Post Classic 350cc Championship race.

“I loved it out there, l lost the clutch on the first lap and had to be real ginger going through the hairpin. I could see Alan (Muggleton) closing in the final stages but delighted l managed to hold on”, said Stu.

In the other feature race of the weekend Garry Thwaites set a fastest lap on his way to a dominant win in the ACU UK Classic 500cc Championship race. Thwaite’s impressive ride saw him seal victory ahead of experienced rider John Cronshaw, a six times UK Classic Champion. Further back in third position was Andrew Taylor aboard his Dunell Manx 499cc machine.

Thwaites commented, “I’ve had some rotten luck in the past when out in front. To be honest during those last six laps l was just listening to the engine and coaxing the bike home.”

Cronshaw on the other hand, was delighted to have layed a few ghosts to rest around Knockhill.

“Last year l fell off and smashed my pelvis around here, so l’m thrilled with that 2nd place finish. I managed to get my head right and l’m glad it’s turned out to be a great weekend”, said John.

Stuart Gray, Knockhill Events Director commented, “The CRMC bring a real nostalgic flavour to Knockhill whenever they come. The competitors, officials and marshals are a real pleasure to deal with and we hope that the Club and members come back next year.”

The bike racing action comes thick and fast this month at Knockhill. The MCE British Superbikes pitch up for a 3 day extravaganza from the 17th to 19th June. The following weekend (Saturday 25th June) sees the Knockhill Motor Sports Club host round 3 of their inaugural series.

Tickets for both events are available now and we hope to see all you bike racing fans here over the coming weeks.
