150 plus bike racers converge on Knockhill this weekend

This weekend at Knockhill will see over 150 bike racers travel to Scotland to compete in the North East Motorcycle Club race meeting. This is the third consecutive year that the Championship has come to Fife bringing with it one of the biggest entry lists of the year.

The North East Motorcycle Racing Club attracts members from the North East of England and Scotland wide. The Championship is an eight round series, of which; rounds 5 and 6 will be run this weekend over Saturday 23rd and Sunday 24th July.

Along with races for 125cc to 1000cc machines, the Knockhill meeting will also witness the conclusion of the Knockhill Motor Sports Club Sidecar Championship and the Jock Taylor Sidecar Memorial Race (In memory of Scotland’s only F1 Sidecar World Champion – Jock Taylor).

The North East Motorcycle Club consists if 17 individual classes ranging from GP125, Formula 400, Classics, Sidecars and Open (Superbikes). Indeed, in the Superbike class the top three positions in the Championship are held by Scots with Montrose rider Bruce Birnie leading the way.

“I’m looking forward to this weekend, it’s a real festival atmosphere when the North East Club comes North of the border.

“Obviously l’ll be looking for a home win and to show the English boys just how to ride a motorcycle around Knockhill,” commented Bruce.

“The weekend is always frantic, jam-packed with action and it always provides terrific racing for spectators.”

Saturday 23rd will see practice and qualifying for all classes, followed by a 15 race programme. Adult admission on the day is as little as £5 with concessions priced at £3. (Children under 12 years go FREE).

Sunday 24th will see morning practice, followed by a 21 race programme. The racing comes thick and fast and is scheduled to finish at 6pm. Adult admission for the Sunday rises to £12 and £6 for concessions. (Under 12 years go FREE).
