Mazda mania at Knockhill

Bathed in sunshine for the whole weekend, Knockhill Racing Circuit played host to a collection of racing championships this weekend. Alongside our regular SMRC series we had guest rounds of the Northern Sports & Saloons Championship and the Ma5da UK Championship and Cup.

A huge 26 race programme took place over Saturday and Sunday with action from Mazda MX5s, Legends, Formula Fords, Minis, Fiestas, Classic Sports & Saloons and the Scottish equivalent to the Northern Sports & Saloons.

Stuart Gray, Knockhill Events Director commented;

“The action all weekend long has been first class. From the moment the Ma5da Championship competitors arrived they have set out to put on a real show. Some of the racing this weekend has been spectacular.

“On Friday, l witnessed four cars racing up the main straight together; and this wasn’t even race day. I even witnessed two cars going through the John R. Weir Chicane side-by-side, very bold racing… especially when you consider the new kerbs we’ve installed this year; absolutely tremendous!”

Ma5da Race Co-ordinator Jonathan Blake had six races over the weekend and although he must have been exhausted, still left Knockhill with a beaming smile.

“It’s been a fabulous weekend, the weather was good (too good perhaps), but none-the-less all the guys have had a great time. When we come to Knockhill we are always welcomed and nothing is too much hassle for the staff, marshals and competitors. So thanks to everyone for making the event such a success,” said Jonathan.

The next car racing action at Knockhill will be louder and just as competitive as the Stock Car Summer Series continues. Wednesday 20th July from 6pm, featuring action from Stock Rods, Hot Rods and F2s. Remember we are also running a FREE bus service from the Cowdenbeath Racewall to Knockhill on the night. See the Stock Car webpage for more info!
