Successful weekend for Lawrie and Neave

Sidecar duo, Scott Lawrie and James Neave proved too strong for the fellow sidecar competitors this weekend as they bagged a double trophy haul at the North East Motor Cycle Racing Club meeting at Knockhill.

The Scottish pair finally got their hands on the coveted Jock Taylor Memorial Trophy after missing out last year to side car legends Tim Reeves and Gregory Cluze. The duo brought their F1 LCR 1000cc machine home 7.3 seconds ahead of 2nd placed pair Kershaw/Wilson with Wrinn/Clark in third position.

Lawrie and Neave also claimed the Knockhill Motor Sports Club Sidecar Championship and with it the Steve Webster Trophy. F1 World Sidecar Champion Webster, donated the trophy at the outset of the new Knockhill Motor Sports Club and Lawrie and Neave have become the first ever winners.

“A double trophy haul, it doesn’t get much better than that,” said Lawrie.

Throughout the weekend there had been some fantastic racing which was highlighted by a superb Open class race earlier today. Current Open class leader, Bruce Birnie was pushed all the way in a thrilling battle with Inverness rider Adrian Clark. Contact was almost made on the final lap as both men pushed to seal the win. Ultimately though it was Birnie who reigned supreme and afterwards he beamed;

“That was terrific, Adrian kept me honest all the way.”

Birnie who had earlier in the weekend fallen from his bike later exclaimed;

“I’ve got the ‘funk’ back on. I was nervous after that fall, l’ve not had one in ages but now l’m right back on it and looking forward to a real ‘ding dong’ battle with Michael Robertson once he returns.”

Knockhill Events Manager, Gemma Hobbs commented;

“It’s be a fabulous weekend of 2-wheel sport, the sun has shone and the riders have all had a great jam-packed weekend of racing. I’d like to say a huge thank you to the NEMCRC for coming to Knockhill again this year and hopefully we’ll see them back soon.”

The next bike action at Knockhill comes in the shape of the BMW Motorrad Central Extreme Challenge Weekend on Saturday 27th and Sunday 28th August. More information on the event can be found via the link above.
