Knockhill BTCC recap

Another BTCC event at Knockhill, another set of incident-packed races and some unpredictable results. Two podium finishes for the next generation Touring Car. Tom Boardman winning his first Touring Car race. Plato and Jackson suffering disappointing weekends, who would have thought it? We all did, well not in that particular order, but the BTCC is fast becoming as entertaining as your favourite TV soap. Scandal, intrigue, excitement, drama and plenty of spectacular action. The BTCC is currently living up to its reputation as ‘Britain’s premier racing series’.

Hence why, a bumper Scottish crowd flocked to Knockhill to witness the current BTCC phenomenon. Pre-booked tickets were the highest in several years and the on the day turnout simply added to the whole event. Mix in a mild Scottish September afternoon and you’ve got a recipe for success. A huge thanks from Knockhill to everyone (and we mean everyone) who turned out today.

“What an event, takes me back to the good old days when we had 16,000 here on race day!

“Granted times have changed, but the BTCC is currently on the up and and we’re delighted to be part of it,” said Stuart Gray, Knockhill Events Director.

Congratulations to all the Scottish drivers, wins for Pierce, Butcher and Brewster in the Porsche Carrera Cup. Fanchitti taking third spot in the final Ginetta GT Supercup race and of course Flash taking a victory on home soil. Shedden now leads the BTCC championship ahead of his Honda team-mate Matt Neal as the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship heads south once more. Adopted Scot, Dave Newsham had a weekend to forget, but he’ll bounce back next time out and Dave, there is always next year.

Thanks also to the Scottish Mini Cooper Cup and the Scottish Classic Sports and Saloons competitors for putting on a fantastic show. Remember if you purchased a programme from today’s event you can get half price admission to see the Minis and Classics next Saturday (10th September).

It’s been a long weekend and everyone here is heading for a wee dram, see you soon, cheers Knockhill!
