Bumper weekend in store for racing fans!

Scottish Championship bike racing makes a welcome return to Knockhill this weekend. In a first for the Knockhill Motor Sports Club, several classes have been awarded Scottish Championship status for the upcoming year, which include the Scottish Superbikes, Scottish Superstock and Scottish Supertwins.

We’ll also have a whole host of Knockhill Motor Sports Club classes racing this weekend as well. In an action-packed two day programme we’ll see racing action from Clubman, F400, Pre Injection 600, Classics, F125 and Sidecars. We’ll see a grand total of thirty races taking place this weekend, the action promises to be dramatic and entertaining in equal measure.

2011 Knockhill Superbike Champion, Bruce ‘the Barber’ Birnie returns looking for his 2nd consecutive title. Bruce however, will face some stiff competition, as the Scottish Championship status event has attracted a bumper entry. Notable challengers to Bruce will include Scone’s Torquil Paterson, David Paton, Scott Shand, Andrew Tasker and Kirkcaldy rider Roy Houston, who steps up from the Superstock 600 class.

The Superstock 600 class has the largest number of entries, with 36 competitors looking to make an impression this weekend. The Superstock 600 racing last year was highly competitive, with various riders taking wins throughout the season. Ones to watch in this class include previous Scottish champion Michael Robertson, Mark Fearn, Angus Mearns, Daniel Kinloch and stepping up in class, Sammi Tasker, who swaps her GP125 machine for a Suzuki GSXR600.

Elsewhere, Sidecar racing makes a welcome return with Knockhill’s own Graham Whitehill partnering David Wrinn onboard their Reywood Yamaha R1. Tony Wilson, 2011 KMSC Pre Injection 600 champion returns to defend his title and Knockhill CEO, Derek Butcher returns as the current KMSC Clubman Champion.

Race veteran Tom Robinson returns for another year in the Formula 400s, looking to improve on his 2nd place finish last season. Youngster, Paul McClung looks for glory in the Scottish Supertwin Championship and Post Classic Senior champion John McFarlane looks to defend his 100% record in Knockhill Motor Sports Club racing (9 starts, 9 wins).
