Knockhill instructor Jonny Adam returned to winning ways in the Avon Tyres British GT Championship at the weekend as he and Beechdeen Motorsport with Aston Martin Racing team-mate Andrew Howard claimed a special victory at the Nurburgring.

The win in race one of two over Friday and Saturday in Germany was the first competitive victory for the new-for-2012 Aston Martin V12 Vantage GT3, and the Fife-based driver was delighted to notch up another significant milestone for the team and the car. “We took the final win for the Aston Martin DBRS9 GT3 last year before we switched to the V12 Vantage for 2012, so it feels great to be the ones to open the account for the new car,” said Adam.

After qualifying in second position for the second race in a row, Beechdean got off to a great start in race one as Andrew Howard guided the V12 Vantage to fourth place before pitting to hand the wheel over to Adam. Race leaders RJN Motorsport were some 15 seconds ahead at this point, but the Scot immediately went on the charge and began rapidly closing in on the number one spot – notching up a string of fastest laps in the process. Just as it looked set for a dramatic showdown RJN were hit with a drive through penalty for a mistimed pit stop – allowing Adam to roar clear and take the chequered flag.
