Taz Mackenzie puts his bike on front row

Following a successful test at Knockhill a few weeks back, securing a couple of wins in the process, Tarran Mackenzie has continued his fine form at Knockhill today. The young Redline KTM rider lapped the Knockhill circuit with a best time of 58.126seconds to take a front row grid position for the Monster Energy Motostar race tomorrow.

Taz lines up in 3rd position behind pole sitter Bradley Ray and Kyle Ryde (2nd). This will be Taz’s first senior front row start and here’s hoping he can convert that into a podium tomorrow.

Tarran’s elder brother Taylor will also be competing this weekend as he races for Irish based, Mar-Train Yamaha in the Motorpoint British Supersport Championship. Knockhill commentator Joe Tanner caught up with the brothers Mackenzie and here’s what they had to say.

“Having come from MotoGP to the British Supersport Championship this year, a lot of things are different and for me, l’m still learning.
“This weekend, l’d be happy with a top ten finish and to put some points on the scoreboard,” said Taylor.

Tarran was asked about his Dad’s involvement nowadays and he quipped:

“Yeah he still shouts at me if l do something wrong, but he is a great help.”

Mackenzie senior still reckons he has what it takes to compete at this level, although we have to reiterate that he has no plans for a racing return.

“I’ve done literally thousands of laps around Knockhill, l love the place. And, yes, l do think l could show some of these guys a thing or too,” said Niall as he also joked with Joe.

You can see both boys in action and Niall pacing the sidelines tomorrow, with action from 9am to 5.30pm.
