Weather set fair for SMRC car racers this Sunday!

Scottish Championship motor racing returns to Knockhill this Sunday (12th August) for their fourth visit of the season to the Fife venue. In all, six different championships will take centre stage on the 1.3 mile Championship Circuit. A 14 race programme will offer fans plenty of opportunity to see their favourite drivers compete throughout the day.

In the Legends series, 5/8th scale American style racing hot rods, Ross Marshall from Alloa will be looking to extend his Championship lead and retain the trophy he won on 2011. Marshall however, will need to be on the lookout for fellow Burnett Motorsport stable-mate and closest title challenger Carol Brown, also a former Legends Champion. Paul O’Brien (Naas), David Hunter (Glenrothes), Robbie Burgoyne (Grangemouth) and Gerard McCosh (Biggar) will be hoping to pile the pressure on the top two.

Elsewhere in the Legends field, Knockhill commentator Duncan Vincent will be hoping to add a little extra insight into the racing for assembled fans. The Glenrothes man will not only be mixing it up with fellow competitors on track, but he’ll also be commenting live on his exploits via Knockhill FM. Vincent completed a successful dual-role debut last time out and will be looking to improve his performance on-track and on-air when the Legend racers line up on Sunday.

At the top of the Scottish Formula Ford 1600 Championship, race wins have been shared throughout the field this season. Ross McEwan (Glasgow), Alistair Dow (Killearn), Jordon Gronkowski (Banff) and Michael Gray (South Queensferry) will all looking to mount series championship surges this weekend.

The Celtic Speed Mini Cooper Cup and Classic Sports & Saloons competitors return to action this Sunday before a guest appearance at the Knockhill BTCC round at the end of August. The Mini racers take to the Circuit three times on Sunday culminating in a reverse grid race which always offers superb entertainment. Edinburgh duo Tim and David Sleigh currently occupy the top two positions in the standings, with David, looking to regain the championship title he won last year.

In the Classic Sports and Saloons Championship three drivers head into this weekend’s event deadlocked at the top of the standings on 284 points. Despite racing in different classes, Andrew Smith (E), Robert Marshall (C) and Nic Boyes (A) have been the dominant performers so far this season. Interestingly, all the leading drivers can’t directly influence the racing within other classes and must rely on their fellow competitors to re-rail their rivals’ championship challenges.

Elsewhere on a jam-packed programme there will be racing action from the Scottish Fiesta and XR2 Championships, as well as the Scottish Sports & Saloons Championship. Qualifying action gets underway at 8.30 am with the first racing action of the day scheduled to go at around 10am.

Tickets for the event can be purchased on the day with tickets costing £12 (Adults), Concessions (6) and Kids under 12 going free. Alternatively, tickets purchased in advance via Knockhill are subject to pre-booking discounts.
