Lap record attempt at SpeedFair

Father and Daughter duo, Colin and Heather Calder have brought their 3.5L, 700 bhp, Gould GR55 Sprint Championship contending car to Knockhill for a lap record attempt this weekend.

The father and daughter combo will be attempting to break the outright race record this Sunday during demonstration runs in the 700bhp single-seat sprint car.

Colin, a Thurso based engineering company Managing Director is confident that with good track conditions and a spot of luck, that the current lap record of 45.470s held by Stewart Robb Jnr (averaging 100.663mph) can be broken.

Colin will be under pressure from his 22 year old daughter, Heather who competes in the same car in the British Sprint Championship.

Heather, a recently qualified mechanical engineer will also be working in the oil industry in Aberdeen has already achieved the notable achievement of being the highest placed female in the British Sprint Championship in over 40 years.

Whilst Colin a Snetterton 100 lap record holder and runner up in the 2011 British Sprint Championship has all the credentails to put on a blistering display this weekend.

Knockhill Events Director, Stuart Gray said:

“Each driver will get three runs during the SpeedFair event and we are really hoping that the record will be smashed.

“We are aiming to attract back the British Sprint Championship in 2013 with a grid packed of similar cars, so Sunday’s demo will be a great preview for something special next year.

“The Stewart Robb record is an official demonstration record, although the fastest ever car was the ex-Rubens Barrichello Ferrari Formula One car driven by Aberdeen’s Nathan Kinch which lapped  Knockhill (2006) in 43.1 seconds. In 2011 that unofficial record was equalled by Irish star, Adam Carroll in an A1 GP car.”
