Flying Scotsmen – Obree & Carmichael at BSB

Knockhill will see a very different form of two wheeled action this weekend at the Superbike Championship with Scotland’s very own “Flying Scotsman” and a world stunt riding champion taking to the track.

Cycling legend Graeme Obree, also known as the Flying Scotsman, will cycle the famous motor racing circuit to launch ENABLE Scotland’s Cycle the World campaign. Following on from the success of the event in 2012, Graeme will ride a lap during the lunch break on Sunday to encourage others to sign up for this exclusive event to take place at Knockhill on 30th August.

Cycle The World will see solo cyclists and teams racing day and night around the 1.3-mile circuit as ENABLE Scotland aims to smash the previous record of 5,385 miles cycled and £24,000 raised for the charity.

Peter Scott, ENABLE Scotland CEO said, “I am delighted to see the return of Cycle the World after its incredible success last year.  It is fantastic that one of Scotland’s most celebrated cyclists, Graeme Obree, will be getting the campaign off to an excellent start on Sunday.  I would encourage everyone to join in on this fun and fantastic event.’’

Each participant registers for the event via www.cycletheworld.org.uk.

Participants pay a registration fee and pledge to raise sponsorship for ENABLE Scotland.

As well as his cycling achievements, Obree has received recognition for his hand-made bicycles and innovative riding positions. Obree has amassed a number of achievements;

• He broke the World Hour record twice, in 1993 and 1994 • He is Double World 4000m Pursuit Champion • Author of The Obree Way’, a training manual for cyclists • He launched the Graeme Obree Ayrshire Sportive in 2011.

His next goal is to break the human powered land-speed record, on a bike designed and built by Obree himself. Here he is talking about his home-made invention that potentially could reach speeds of 100mph… incredible!

Hot in the wheel tracks of Graeme will be world stunt riding champion Kevin Carmichael who will perform some of the most amazing stunts ever seen on two wheels. All of this action will be preceded by the very special Steve Hislop tribute laps featuring riding stars Niall Mackenzie, Jamie Whitham and Stuart Easton.
