FREE entry to Hottrax Bike Racing this weekend

This weekend, the Hottrax Racing Championship series’ roll into Knockhill for two days of fast, 2-wheeled, bike racing action which will feature classes and riders not seen at Knockhill since 2007. AND, best of all, it’s completely FREE admission all weekend.

That’s right, no entry FEE on Saturday 9th or Sunday 10th August. So, if you’ve always wondered what a proper racing event was like at Knockhill, but never quite got round to attending one; then now is your chance, and its FREE.

We won’t lie to you, Saturday looks like the better day (weather wise); however, you can always stay in your car, tune into 87.7FM, and listen to the action as you watch from various vantage points around the track; if the weather takes a turn for the worse. That said, the action will continue whatever the weather brings; rain, hail or shine.

Interestingly, this weekend also sees the return of Endurance racing to Knockhill, with a 3 hour marathon on Saturday 9th August (only). Saturday will feature a number of different racing classes including Pre-National/Rookie 600/1000 racing, Ducati Desmo Due action, Protyre Modern Classic and the ACU/Sorrymate.com National 600 and 1000 Endurance race; pitting teams of men against each other and of course the hard, undulating twists and turns of Knockhill; a true test for man and machine.

Sunday’s action will kick off around 9am with practice and warm up sessions for all classes; followed by the opening 25 lap race at approximately 10.27am. The racing action will continue through to approximately 3.00pm, with action once again coming from the Monex Europe MonteGrande PowerSport 600, Linxcel MotoGrande  PowerBike Tour 1000 and the Michelin Power Cup Pro 600/1000 races. We’ll also have more Ducati Desmo Due action alongside Protyre Modern Classic with Fuchs Silkolene Championship racing; sporting Superbikes, Supersport, Pre-Injection, EVO, SF, Lightweight and Formula 400 machinery.

All-in-all, a superb weekend of exhilarating action awaits. You can read the inside word on who to look out for if you are going to attend in this Hottrax preview article, otherwise, we’re pretty sure our ace commentary team will get you up to speed, on whatever day you decide to attend.

Other FREE to attend events at Knockhill

Forth-Road

The Hottrax event this weekend won’t be the only FREE event you can attend this year. As part of the British Touring Car event, we are hosting a special BTCC/Jim Clark Forth Road Bridge Crossing on Thursday 21st August. A current crop of BTCC cars will be on display, at the South car park, alongside some of Jim Clark’s former cars (from 9am), before heading over the bridge en-route to Knockhill from 11am onwards. The special event, which will officially start the 2014 Forth Bridges Festival, in which the iconic landmark will celebrate its 50th year, will also act as a precursor to the Jim Clark 50th BTCC Title Anniversary Tribute to be held during the Touring Car event, at Knockhill, on 23/24 August. Check the Knockhill BTCC webpage for further info.

Later in August, in association with Enable Scotland, Knockhill will play host to a unique 24 hour cycle challenge in aid of the charity. The event which starts on Friday 29th August (10am) and concludes on Saturday 30th August (10am) will see hundreds of riders (of all levels) aim to complete the grueling challenge as part of a team, or on an individual basis. Former World Champion, Graeme Obree is an ambassador for the event, and he will also be participating in the challenge with his own team. Spectator entry for this event is completely free and for those of you wishing to get involved; a £60 entry fee to Enable Scotland must be paid and additional sponsorship can be raised if you want, but is not required. It’s a great event, for a great cause and a fantastic opportunity to cycle well into the night, in a safe and controlled environment. See the Cycle the World website for details.
