European Drifting and Time Attack at Knockhill

“Spectators will think the track’s on fire on Sunday 18th May.”

So said Ray Smith, PR Manager for Knockhill Racing Circuit, Scotland’s National Motorsport Centre, when speaking about the annual visit to Scotland of the amazing POWERSLIDE LIVE: EUROPEAN DRIFT CHAMPIONSHIP (EDC), the most sideways and spectacular motorsport activity in the world.

The ‘sport’ of drifting originated in Japan and quickly gained a massive fan base and cult status, which hugely accelerated when the top cars and drivers starred in a Hollywood movie entitled “The Fast and the Furious” which centred around the colourful, tyre smoking cars and starred action man actor Vin Diesel.  A second, follow up film, “Tokyo Drift” greatly helped to capture the imagination of fans and a great display of action is expected when the high powered cars hit the Knockhill track.

The Scottish public will have the opportunity to view the breathtaking sight of seeing high powered cars, deliberately being thrown into lurid broadside slides, at speeds reaching 110mph, whilst approaching a series of Knockhill’s trickiest bends!!

Added Mr Smith, “Our first corner – SEAT Curve – is well known in the world of motorsport as one of the most daunting and hair-raising, blind downhill bends of any circuit in the World and tests the skill and bravery of drivers to the limit, under normal conditions, but these guys really are in a league of their own – totally crazy, but superb with it.”
