Rutter claims victory, whilst race two is abandoned

Extreme weather conditions caused havoc with today’s MCE British Superbike Championship races at Knockhill. Torrential downpours all day interrupted the racing schedule, which ultimately saw a number of the proposed races being abandoned.

When action finally got underway in the opening race of the MCE British Superbikes, it was a triumphant Michael Rutter who crossed the finish line ahead of Kiyonari by just 0.577 seconds.

Rutter also received the Steve Hislop Memorial Plaque for the fastest lap of the day. Rutter pictured below receiving the award!

Josh Brookes pulled together another points haul in the shape of a third place finish, crossing the line 6.187 seconds off the lead.

Scotland’s Stuart Easton could only manage a 19th place finish.

Easton did wear the helmet designed by an avid fan via a competition on Knockhill.com. The helmet pictured below will now go on auction with all proceeds going to the Children’s Hospice in Kinross (C.H.A.S) Charity.

Knockhill Events Director, Stuart Gray said; “I’m disappointed by the way the event has unfolded today, more so for the thousands of fans that turned up here today.

“I must applaud their enthusiasm; at times the weather was testing, really testing. But hats off to them, they endured it and stayed on to the bitter end. They are a testament to the sport and we thank them for coming today.”

The second MCE British Superbike Championship race of the day was abandoned due to the adverse weather conditions. The race will now take place at Snetterton (Sat) with the grid positions remaining the same as today.
