SRMC Finale at Knockhill

The Scottish Championship Car Racing season concluded at Knockhill Racing Circuit today (Sunday 9th October). This weekend’s event saw five SMRC Championships reach dramatic conclusions.

The Celtic Speed Mini Cooper Cup was eventually won by David Sleigh, with Vic Covey Junior finishing in 2nd position. Sleigh’s brother Tim, secured third place in the Championship and also collected the 2011 Newcomers title.

Stan Bernard lifted the overall Classic Sports and Saloons Championship with John Marshall in 2nd. Russell Milloy took the honours in the Fiesta XR2 Championship, meanwhile Garry Watson claimed the Scottish Sports & Saloons Title.

In a terrific battle that went to the very last race, Ross Marshall won the Scottish Legends Championship ahead of Carol Brown. Brown, was looking to achieve another slice of history by becoming the first woman to claim a second Legends title, after becoming the first-ever female winner a few years ago.

Ken Thirwall also re-wrote the history books, by becoming the first Formula Ford competitor to secure a 100% record. Thirwall won ever race of the 2011 season to claim his first championship win in only his 2nd Formula Ford season.

Knockhill Events Director Stuart Gray commented:

“This season has been spectacular, there are now several Championships in Scotland that offer top class racing. You need only look at the Mini races at the BTCC event earlier this year to see that Scottish motor racing is booming.

“Everyone at Knockhill very much looks forward to welcoming the Scottish Motor Racing Club and its members back next year.”

The car racing action at Knockhill for 2011 isn’t over, just yet. The Knockhill Motor Sports Club will hold their first ever car race meeting on Sunday 30th October. It will feature action from Classics, Minis, Legends and Fiestas. We very much hope that everyone can make it back to finish off the 2011 car racing season in style.
