BSB lads don swim suits and head for Deep Sea World

In build up to round 5 of the MCE British Superbike Championships at Knockhill this weekend. Knockhill along with BSB Officials took some of the riders for a little swim this morning. Far from slipping on their budgie smugglers and arm bands at a local swimming pool, the boys had to step in at the deep-end and go swimming with sharks.

Three riders, including reigning champion Tommy Hill went in the water, coming face to face with the seven Sand Sharks, including the biggest called Tinker Bell who measures over 3m (10 feet in length). Hill was joined in the tank at Deep Sea World today by Taylor Mackenzie and Frenchman, Freddy Foray, whist Alex Lowes and Samsung Honda’s Michael Laverty watched from the relative safety of the underwater tunnel.

All the riders will be in action over the weekend, and thankfully all returned safely to Knockhill Racing Circuit this afternoon.

MarTrain Yamaha Racing’s, Taylor Mackenzie said afterwards:

“To be honest, I was more nervous in the briefing room before the dive than I am on the grid before a race. Once we got in however, I really enjoyed it and it was a great diversion from the normal things we do before a race meeting. I will remember the experience forever and must say a big thanks to both Knockhill and Deep Sea World for organizing the trip.”

Knockhill Events Director, Stuart Gray commented:

“Whenever the Superbike riders come north of the border, they are always up for some fun. In the past we’ve taken them to crazy golf and last year they all donned kilts under the Forth Bridges.

“Granted, this year we were slightly concerned that we could be featuring on the next episode of ‘When Animals Attack’, however, the staff at Deep Sea World know their stuff and the boys were always in good hands.”

Left to right in the water: Taylor Mackenzie (MarTrain Supersport 600), Tommy Hill (Swan Yamaha – reigning Champion) Freddy Foray (Quattro Plant Kawasaki). In the tunnel Alex Lowes (Team WFR Honda) and Michael Laverty (Samsung Honda).
