Butcher hopeful of making the most of home advantage

Porsche Carrera Cup racer and Knockhill employee, Rory Butcher is looking forward to his home round this weekend. Rory takes to the Circuit behind the wheel of his Celtic Speed Porsche 911 for two races this weekend.

Butcher knows all-to-well that home advantage will count for little when the competition starts with qualifying on Saturday afternoon. Given the competitive nature of the series, with potential race winners scattered throughout the field, Butcher knows he’ll need to make a stunning start to stand any chance of a podium come Sunday’s race day.

“I couldn’t tell you how many laps l’ve done around Knockhill, so in some respects l should have some local knowledge that should give me a slight edge. But the teams and drivers l’m up against in the Championship are really strong.

“We tested at Knockhill earlier in the year and the Celtic Speed guys have given me a superb car at each and every round so far this year. Setting the car up correctly will be key. If we get that right and get ourselves into the top four qualifying slots, then that should give us a good springboard to push on from.

“I’m also looking forward to sleeping in my own bed this weekend. I have somewhere to go, away from the track, to chill out and go over things in my head. Don’t get me wrong, l’ve loved travelling to all the other tracks, it has been a steep learning curve, but one l have thoroughly enjoyed. But, coming home to Knockhill means l can get all my sponsors, friends and family involved and hopefully give something back.

“A successful weekend for me would be to score some podiums, it will be a difficult challenge, but one l’m very much looking forward to,” concluded Butcher.

Butcher won’t be the only Scot in action in the Porsche Carrera Cup this weekend. Aberdeen’s Glynne Geddie , and three fellow Scots from Edinburgh, George Brewster, Oly Mortimer and Derek Pierce will also be lining up on the starting grid.

Tickets for the event are now subject to box office collection. Simply buy in advance via the Knockhill website and you can collect them on the day when you arrive. Advanced booking discounts are still available until the weekend.

It promises to be a jam-packed event and we hope you can join us!
