Butcher on the up in Porsche Carrera Cup

Porsche Carrera Cup racer Rory Butcher always looks out for his home round when the dates are released at the start of the year. Most of us would think that a home round would present some extra pressure for the Kirkcaldy racer, but Butcher claims it is the polar opposite.

“I love the buzz about racing at my home track, it’s a great opportunity for my family, friends and sponsors to come along and watch me race. As long as l put on a good show for all the people who have supported me, is the main thing. Any pressure l feel, is only what l put on myself.

“I have no expectations this weekend, I’m just going out there to race as hard as l can. Knockhill tends to throw up the unexpected and with the Carrera Cup being so competitive, I think fans are in for an awesome weekend,” said Butcher.

Butcher’s season hasn’t quite gone to plan, with a number of incidents hampering his progress this year and a crash at Croft adding further insult to injury. However, Butcher feels that the team have turned a corner and a recent podium at Snetterton last time out, has raised his spirits considerably for this coming weekend.

“The Celtic Speed guys did a great job rebuilding the car after Croft, and it worked really well at Snetterton. I could feel my confidence returning session by session and l am looking to carry that forward into the races at Knockhill.

As for the Championship, Butcher isn’t quite throwing in the towel, just yet!

“It’s looking a bit tough, given all that has happened this year, however, anything can happen at Knockhill (and often does). A great weekend for me and mixed fortunes for my rivals could really put me back in the hunt,” concluded Butcher.

Butcher will be a busy boy throughout the weekend; with a host of practice, qualifying and races to compete in, however, he knows all-to-well that he needs to take time out for all those people who have supported him throughout the years.

“Yeah, I’ll be taking some time out on Sunday just to say thanks to all those people who have supported me. We’ll be inviting them along to the Celtic Speed base for some tours and general motorsport chat, it will be good to catch up with everyone,” exclaimed Butcher.
