The last time that Scotland had such an abundance of drivers in Britain’s premier tin-top racing series was back in the 90s; when the likes of John Cleland, David Leslie and Anthony Reid were strutting their stuff. During that time, other Scots including our own (infamous) Ian Forrest, now Circuit Manager at Knockhill, joined the Championship. Forrest even went on to claim a £25,000 purse for being the driver to pass the most cars in one season. We often hear stories from Ian about his Touring Car days and let’s just say… you probably wouldn’t get away with half of the stuff they got up to nowadays… but we digress.

Geddie returns to Knockhill, a track he knows well, behind the wheel of his United Autosports Toyota Avensis looking for a significant upturn in fortunes this weekend. Geddie, who made his car racing debut at Knockhill in 2006 in a Mini Cooper race, has gone on to compete in various championships across Europe including the Porsche Carrera Cup, British GT Championship and the Dutch Supercar Series, where he is the current reigning Champion. But as Geddie embarks on the final half of his debut BTCC season he admits it’s been a tough ride so far.

“I really hope my ‘home’ track is a changing point in my maiden BTCC season – it’s been a hard first year to date. We’ll need some luck in qualifying with more than 30 cars on track – space will be at a premium for securing that hot lap,” said Geddie.

Glynn will also be part of our special Jim Clark Forth Road Bridge crossing on Thursday 21st August, where he will drive is Toyota Avensis in convoy across the famous landmark beside his fellow Scottish BTCC stars. Action at the bridge will start with a display from 9.30am, before Glynn, Dave Newsham, Gordon Shedden, Aiden Moffat and John Cleland in a DKW, as well as five other Jim Clark cars, cross the bridge at 11am on their way to Knockhill for the BTCC weekend.

Geddie, who has raced at Knockhill over 20 times, comes off his equal-best finish of the season last time out at Snetteron. He finished the final race of the day in 12th position and will be looking to build on that performance this weekend. Richard Dean, Team Owner and Managing Director of Unitied Autosports said:

“We are really looking forward to heading to Knockhill. It’s Glynn’s home race so the Scottish race fans will be cheering him on I’m sure. As we saw at Snetterton, we have the ability to be in the top half of the grid, we now just need to be more consistent throughout the weekend and maintain those good results.”

The BTCC action kicks off on Saturday (23rd August) with a series of warm up and practice sessions for the BTCC racers; before that all-important BTCC qualification session at 3.05pm.

Sunday (24th August) will see the BTCC stars take to the Knockhill track for three action-packed races, alongside a series of support class races.

Tickets for the event can be pre-booked via the Knockhill.com website or by calling 01383 723337 –all pre-booked tickets will be subject to box office collection at the Circuit on the day of attendance. Tickets will also be available throughout the weekend at the gate!
