Newsham: Qualification pace will be the key at Knockhill

Inverness based driver, Dave Newsham, is looking forward to the short drive to Knockhill this weekend as he prepares to kick-start his season at his ‘home’ track.

The AMDTuning.com Ford Focus has been extremely reliable this year; with Newsham looking to marry that consistency up with some added pace this weekend, to really challenge the front-runners at Knockhill.

“I don’t expect any mechanical issues this weekend, unlike last year when we had a torrid time at Knockhill, we just need to find some extra pace, particularly in qualifying; that’s been an issue for us this year.

“2014 is probably the most competitive season in BTCC history. To be at the front this year, everything has to be just perfect, and we are some way from there yet; but we are getting there. That said, if it rains, we could be right up there this weekend,” said Newsham.

Newsham claims to enjoy the challenge of Knockhill and can hardly wait to pit his wits against 30 other BTCC drivers this weekend; especially with all the support he’ll receive from his fans.

“Knockhill is, without question, my favourite round of the year. It’s a track l really enjoy and l’ll have a lot of support heading down the A9 this weekend.

“Knockhill always provides cracking racing, it’s a short lap and that tends to keep everyone packed together; you can be sure there will be fair bit of pushing and shoving during Sunday’s races… I can hardly wait,” exclaimed the former Knockhill BTCC race winner.

“I often think back to 2012 Knockhill round, we were having a difficult day; then we drew pole position for final race and won it! That race put me in the history books as the very last driver to win a BTCC race in a Vauxhall, and to be honest, the reverse grid race will likely be our best shot at a win this weekend too,” concludes Newsham.
