Adam set to wrap-up Seat championship

Fifer Jonathan Adam heads to Brands Hatch this weekend on the verge of retaining the Seat Cupra Championship he dominated in 2007. But this year the 26-year-old from Kirkcaldy has had to fightback after a miserable start to the season.

“It took us a few races  to get the car set-up the way we wanted it,” the Fifer explained today, “but once we got everything sorted we were soon back to winning races.”

Such was Adam’s turnaround in performance that he has won nine of the following 12 races and takes a 17-point lead into Sunday’s final double-header ahead of longtime leader, Robert Lawson from Richmond.

“It’s certainly not going to be straightforward,” Adam, who finished third and ninth in the season’s opener, also held at the Kent circuit, admitted. “There are few places to overtake at Brands, so it will be tough.

“Of course it’s good for the championship that it’s going right down to the last race. But I’ve got to approach the weekend the same as any other; go out, get pole position and win the races.”

Adam though carries a three-place grid penalty as a result of an infringement in the last round at Silverstone and Lawson, who finished first and second in the two previous races at Brands, is determined to overhaul the Scot.

“There’s no pressure on me now,” the Englishman said, “so I can throw caution to the wind and really just go for it. I’m here for one thing, and that’s to win the championship.”
